What’s Your Assigned Post?
The Lord has an assignment He intends each of us to fulfill (Jn 9:4, NLT). This may be true even of those who were never able to live outside the womb because they were aborted (Ps 139:16, Harrison). What they were to have done, in a way unique to them, never gets done. The ripple effect is staggering. This may be but one of the unintended consequences of abortion.
Think of the ripple effect when we reject the assigned service He intended for us to do (Ps 134:1, IVPBBC note). God is all-knowing (Isa 46:10; Ps 139:4). For Him to choose us to take up a certain post, to minister to a certain sphere of people, means He thought us best suited for that position. Let’s suppose that my wife and I correctly discerned that the Lord intended us to take up the marital and parental post of being married to each other. That would imply that our children had the best parents God intended them to have. His kingdom is best furthered by our being stationed at our post (2 Cor 10:13). This is an honor. In the same way, going to a post He did not intend for us to fill has negative consequences. The Lord can bring good out of our ignoring His orders (Rom 8:28) but the results will not be what He truly intended.
Let us seek to know where He wants us to be stationed – what job, spouse, place to live, church, etc. – so His good intent will be done. Furthermore, once we are at our post, let us not leave it unless we have sufficiently clear new orders from Him.
