The Blessing Of Being A Peacemaker
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Mt 5:9, KJV). Having received peace with God, the poor in spirit, who show mercy and seek to ease suffering, want all people to experience peace with the Lord. They will share the gospel to give others a chance to be free of guilt. This doesn’t mean that they will not fight for the truth. Peace, in sacrifice of truth, is not real peace and is not of interest to them. Besides, there can be no peace with God if truth is sacrificed. Neither can there be peace between people that is not founded in truth. Peacemakers want to be at peace with others, whenever that is possible (Rom 14:19; Heb 12:14). They also want people to get along with each other and will work toward this in whatever way He wants them to do so.
The blessing these peacemakers receive is to be called sons of God. People may refer to them as God’s children. Such compliments are of no concern to the peacemakers. What makes this special is that it is the Lord Himself who calls we peacemakers His sons and daughters. Even though we are already His sons, we will be publicly acknowledged as such by Him on Judgment Day (Mt 10:32).
Jesus Christ Himself is said to be the Prince of Peace (Isa 9:6). He came to offer peace with God to those who would believe in Him (Rom 5:1). Those called sons or daughters of God enter into His work. We become His co-workers as well as His family. This is a great privilege!
