When Some Evil Is The Best Choice
We all must suffer some evil in this life (Phil 1:29). After all, the age we live in is evil (Gal 1:4). It is to be expected, then, that we will be contaminated, to some degree, by the evil all around us. The Almighty could bring all this evil to an end now, if He so chose. He doesn’t. We have to conclude, therefore, that He knows it is better to allow it to continue and bring good out of it. He has His reasons.
Thus, when we are faced with evil, we should continue to resist it and do what we believe is right. The Union didn’t need to stop fighting a Civil War just because the war involved much that was evil. Giving up would have involved worse evil. Sometimes these are the choices we must make: bad or worse. At those points, bad is preferable to worse. It becomes the best choice available to us. It is the right decision to make.
What evils do you face? Don’t give up. Avoid them if you are able, but persevere if that is the best choice you have. Remember to look for the lessons to be learned and the other good that can be yours during the struggle (Romans 8:28). For the Christian, there is a silver lining in every cloud, an opportunity in every trial, some lesson to be learned in every painful experience. After all, the greatest evil that ever was allowed was God the Son Incarnate being tortured and murdered by evil men (Acts 4:27-28). Yet, look at the wonderful results God brought out of that!
Loving trust is more important than mere head knowledge.
